On December 1, 2016 La Grange, Texas will celebrate its 9th annual Schmeckenfest festival. Taking place on La Grange’s courthouse square between 5 and 8 pm, Schmeckenfest is a true community event, which attracts visitors to the Square to sample over 25 different types of wassail (hot cider) made by various business owners and community leaders.
The goal of this wassail competition is to win the coveted honor of being named Schmeckenmeister. The winner wears the crown of Schmeckenmeister until the next annual Schmeckenfest festival.
Pioneer Bank will be hosting a beautiful Winter Wonderland for children of all ages. Inside the bank, visitors enjoy creating holiday ornaments, writing Santa wish lists, building a snowman and making snowflakes,
Visitors to our Schmeckenfest quickly get in the spirit of Christmas, surrounded by great Czech music and tasty treats sold by local nonprofit organizations. Like most Christmas festivals, the biggest treat for children attending the festival is a surprise visit from Santa.
Schmeckenfest festivities start with a Christmas parade and lighting of the County Christmas tree on the Courthouse lawn. A host of children’s activities are available, including cookie decorating, a bounce house, a Schmecken-ball pit, and much more.
